[Nightmare Creatures Review] We have Bloodborne at home.

Most recently, Lilith Walther posted a trailer with gameplay of the Bloodborne demake – a game from From Software, but stylized as projects released on the PlayStation One. The release date has also been announced – January 31 of next year. Burning with impatience, I began to google games with a similar atmosphere to brighten up the wait time for Bloodborne in retro style, and at the same time to have an atmospheric Halloween. That’s how I came across Nightmare Creatures. It was developed by Kalisto Entertainment for PC, PS1 and N64 and was a kind of cross between survival-horror and beat`em up. It also had a sequel, released for PS1 and Sega Dreamcast, and a version for Java phones.

Find ten differences.

Find ten differences.

And what is it about??

The game takes place in https://signorbetcasino.co.uk/login/ London in the 19th century, which is overrun by all sorts of grotesque and terrible creatures. There were also rumors that people were disappearing all over the city, the dead were rising from their graves and going about their dead business.We are given two characters to choose from – a local priest and occult expert Ignatius and Nadia, the daughter of a doctor from New Orleans. Together they must find a certain Adam Crowley, a travel scientist and occultist, possibly based on Aleister Crowley, a real-life English writer who was engaged in the occult sciences and Satanism, as well as poetry and writing, in his spare time.

The plot, for some unknown reason, in the Japanese version of the game is much more detailed than in the European and North American versions. The whole fuss started in 1666. A certain Brotherhood was experimenting with the goal of obtaining an elixir that could endow cult members with superhuman abilities, which would help capture London, and then (OF COURSE. ) and the whole world. However, something went wrong and instead of the expected result, the British experimental subjects began to turn into nightmarish creatures. But the members of the brotherhood did not despair and quickly enrolled the monsters in their personal army. But Samuel Pepys didn’t like this situation, so he decided to burn down the headquarters of his former comrades, which led to the Great Fire of London.

Intro from the Japanese version of the game. It is noteworthy that the missing part of the plot is presented as a slideshow with subtitles in Japanese, while in the background the announcer still speaks in English. Why the plot was cut off in other versions is still unclear.

And now, after more than 160 years, London again began to be haunted by terrible monsters, the living dead and other evil spirits. Behind all this was Adam Crowley, who, with the help of the Brotherhood, brought chaos to the long-suffering city. And so, our Ignatius finds Pepys’s diary, sends it to a doctor he knows from America, Gene Franciscus, but after a while he is killed. And so, at the doctor’s funeral, Ignatius and the daughter of the deceased doctor, Nadya, are given a note where it turns out that the diary was stolen and it was all Crowley’s doing. Unable to tolerate such injustice, Ignatius and Nadya set off to cleanse London of evil spirits and at the same time punish Crowley, who is responsible for all the troubles.

Fine. But what about the gameplay??

In terms of gameplay, the game has both positive and controversial aspects. In general, both characters do not have any fundamental differences. Except that Nadya seemed much more nimble to me. She wields a sword from the start, which can later be upgraded to a spiked sword, and then to a cleaver. Ignatius is armed with a fighting staff, which, over time, can be upgraded into a double-sided spiked mace, and then a double-sided ax. Also, in addition to attacks with the main weapon, both characters have a kick, which allows you to close the distance with the enemy, and in conjunction with attacks with the main weapon, completely disassemble enemies into their component parts, and literally.There are also a number of secondary weapons in the game that can be found throughout the levels if you look hard enough. These include:

Smoke screen – disorients enemies, after which they do not pay attention to the player for some time;

Dynamite – during an explosion, it deprives enemies of various limbs protruding from them, causing them to lose the ability to attack;

Torch – sets enemies on fire, who turn to ash after a couple of moments. But at the same time they will not drop loot;
